Letter from Carlos
Thanks to your support, we were able to host a worship program by the Dave Miller family at the prison Carlos is in. Below is an excerpt of a letter in which he recounts the miraculous story of his son coming to know Jesus.
Letter from Carlos
3-4 Minute Read
On October 16, 2017, I requested my son to be moved from Bent County to CTCF, the prison I am in. I received the following note from the official in charge later that same day.
“While I am sympathetic to your concerns regarding your son’s incarceration, it is my decision at this time to allow the classification process to work as intended and not intercede to request placement of your son at CTCF. I encourage you to maintain communication with your son and encourage his positive transition toward future release. I recognize your positive behavior and choices and hope that you continue to focus on service and mentoring others.”
The following week I was told to let my son do 3/4 of his 20-year sentence then they would consider the transfer. I replied, “I can not wait that long. My son needs me now.”
I thank God for that day because it drew me closer to Him—to the only One who could help me. That was the beginning of my journey in learning what it meant to have a “faith with action.”
In the one year and 8 months since then, God has called on me to do His will by serving others, preaching the gospel, and winning souls. God has given me numerous ideas for how to work with the prison’s management team to have my son transferred here, and I did every one of them through “faith with action.” I never gave up on my son no matter how many times I failed. Chaplain Matt [an NHM chaplain] can tell you how I never stopped working toward the goal of seeing my son transferred.
On March 17, 2019, I wrote a sermon for a Sunday church service. In that sermon, I prayed for God to make a way for my son to come here so I can introduce him to Jesus, so he could become a child of God and have a relationship with Him, and so he could become a godly fother. I wanted to be a godly father to him as well. I also prayed for God to open doors that no man could shut. In the sermon, I told the church they all would be witnesses to God bringing my son here. And from that day on, every Sunday in service during “praise reports” I would tell the church my son is on his way, my son is on his way, my son is on his way, he is still on his way.
The chapel clerks posted a sign-up sheet for the “Miller Family Worship Service.” I noticed it and was the first one to sign up. There were only 74 slots available. I came back to the chapel the next day because God put on my heart to sign my son up, so I signed him up as well. He was #72 on the sign-up sheet.
On June 5, I received the memo from the “Intel Officer” that my son has been approved to come to CTCF! But what I never did tell the church, or my son, or my family was that two weeks prior to my son’s approval, the prison management team denied my request for the last time. But remember, I prayed to God to open doors no man can shut.
My son arrived in the prison’s transitional cell house on June 13. He came behind the walls on June 14, and on that very night, he came to the Miller Family Worship Service with me. The whole time from the beginning I was praying and calling on the name of our LORD GOD to pierce my son’s heart, conscience, soul, and spirit through the message you preached and the awesome songs of worship you sang. When you did the altar call, I prayed my heart out silently with tears coming down my cheek. Then as I was secretly looking at my son’s feet from the corner of my eye as I was waiting with faith on the LORD our God to move my son, He did. I saw my son take off running to the altar call. I chased after him crying—praising God—worshiping God.
That was the happiest day of my life. My dreams, my hopes, my prayers had come true. God heard me. He heard my cries. He heard my pleas. He saved my son.
This story is one of love, hope, faith—with action, obedience, and service to God and others. God is faithful and He is good.
My son is sealing the deal and making his vow, his oath, his promise, and his commitment to Jesus and God on July 28, 2019, through baptism. And I am so blessed, honored, and pleased to help baptize him with Chaplain Matt.
Thank you all and God bless you.
Jesus loves you.
Sincerely and Respectfully,
Carlos
