Why Discipleship?

For children with a parent in prison, discipleship can change everything.

Children often follow their parents to prison.

When a child has a parent in prison during their developmental years, it profoundly impacts their view of the world. The absence of a parent or a strained relationship disrupts their sense of identity and hinders a healthy view of themselves and those around them.

Without intervention, these children are at risk of being caught in the cycle of incarceration themselves.

Through consistent support and care, we walk alongside children with incarcerated parents and their caregivers. This intervention offers them hope, helping them recognize that a different future is possible—a future free from incarceration. By entering into their stories, we not only help them break the cycle, but we also help them create a foundation of hope for an incarceration-free future for their children.

Discipleship Changes Everything

Connection

A child with an incarcerated parent often faces feelings of loneliness, abandonment, and mistrust.

Children with absent parents need positive role models who offer time, support, and genuine care.

Hope

Children with a parent in prison often struggle to see a pathway to a different future and may feel trapped in the cycle of incarceration.

With consistent support, a child begins to realize that their parents’ choices do not define them, and they are not alone in creating a better future.

Spiritual Healing

For a child affected by incarceration, shame and brokenness can create feelings of separation from God and others.

As a child enters their teenage years, healing can be found for these wounds, fostered by the relationships built during their formative years.

Life Transformation

Without positive role models, children affected by incarceration often struggle with crime and addiction as they reach adulthood.

Transformation becomes part of their story as they grow up with consistent support, finding stability, restored relationships, and the experience of life free from incarceration.

How Do We Break The Cycle Of Incarceration?

We offer consistent support to children with an incarcerated parent through daycare services, weekly kids' clubs, quarterly child and caregiver events, and summer camp weeks. These programs provide safe spaces where children can connect with peers, build trust, and develop positive coping skills.

Through these efforts, we help children heal from the emotional impact of parental incarceration, promote healthy relationships, and empower them to envision a future free from the cycle of incarceration.

By supporting these children and their caregivers, we give them the tools to break the cycle and create a better future.

Discipleship looks different in each stage of the journey

Connection

We understand that every child with an incarcerated parent has a unique story. Our focus is on meeting them where they are with empathy and understanding, ensuring they feel cared for as they begin their journey toward healing and transformation.

  • Daycare: Providing a caring environment for children aged 0-5.
  • Weekly Kids Club: Offering consistent interaction with children ages 6-12.
  • Quarterly Family Events: Hosting interactive events with children and their caregivers.
  • Summer Camps: Organizing 5-day camps for boys and girls ages 8-12.

Hope

With consistent care and support, children with an incarcerated parent begin to realize that their parent’s situation doesn’t define them, and they are not alone. Hope rises as they see the possibility of a different, brighter future. We walk alongside these children, helping them discover a path toward healing, growth, and a future free from the cycle of incarceration.

  • Consistent Care: A regular, steady presence in children’s lives allows them to develop hope and the belief that someone genuinely cares for them.
  • Presenting the Gospel: Offering spiritual guidance and opportunities to learn about faith, helping children build a strong foundation for healing and transformation.
  • Building Friendships: Creating a sense of community where children can form healthy, supportive relationships with peers and caring adults.

Spiritual Healing

As children of incarcerated parents experience care and support, they begin to heal from deep emotional and spiritual wounds. We walk with them, guiding them toward restored relationships with God, themselves, others, and their families.

  • Faith in Christ: As children reach the age of accountability, they embrace the transformative power of faith for true healing and hope.
  • Healing from Trauma: Addressing past hurts and helping children find emotional and spiritual restoration.

Life Transformation

Life transformation is evident through restored relationships with God, oneself, others, and the world around them. While children of incarcerated parents may not experience full transformation until adulthood, they are given the opportunity to establish a strong foundation that will lead to this transformation.

Through consistent care, faith development, and support, these children can build healthy relationships, grow in character, and develop the tools to navigate life with purpose.

As they mature, they will have the opportunity to experience true life transformation, breaking free from the cycle of incarceration and embracing their God-given identity.
