“Your Voice Sounds Different”: Prisoners’ Stories of Transformation
We recently held a Bondage to Freedom seminar with twenty-five prisoners and twelve volunteers. The focus of the seminar was healing and offering forgiveness for past wounds.
As the men shared, we experienced many new freedoms and breakthroughs as the Lord spoke and moved among them. One young man shared that he was a Luciferian and was heavily involved in witchcraft. When he publicly surrendered his life to the Lord, it was beautiful to see the change in his countenance as he received healing.
The next morning, he came to me and said he had called his girlfriend, and she kept accusing him of being high. He continued to deny it, and his girlfriend said, “Your voice sounds different. What happened?” Then he described the seminar he was attending and how it was changing and bringing him healing. After the seminar, he got rid of and denounced all his witchcraft material, deciding to be serious and intentional about following the Lord.
Another man we met was Mark, who had been in a gang for most of his life, just like his dad. He knew all the lingo and was part of that life, which he claimed as his family and brought him a sense of belonging. We heard his story of how he came to prison, met the Lord in a miraculous way, and now has a hunger for more of the Lord. He’s reading the Word and has renounced the music he used to listen to, recognizing that it was filling him with things he didn’t want.
Stories like these remind us that whether someone is coming out of witchcraft or gang life, the freedom and joy of the Lord are real and available to all who turn to Him.
