Children Ministries Support Staff at NHM are vital members of our team, responsible for helping across various divisions, including the Child Placement Agency, Daycare, and ARK Ministries. This role has variety, as you may support different families and participate in diverse tasks. Adapting to different needs is part of the job. 

Ascend 

Ascend is our youth discipleship program that promotes healthy personal and spiritual growth in the lives of youth volunteers. You can expect to have intentional learning, life-changing interactions with mentors and peers, and meaningful opportunities to serve others. 

You will experience: 

• A one-year program for youth ages 18+. 
• Living in a household with other young people. 

Receive biblical teaching and personal mentoring 

Strengthening your relationship is vital to your effectiveness as an ambassador for God. During your time here you will engage in weekly group Bible studies, monthly One on One meetings, and classes every Tuesday afternoon with homework throughout the week. 

Work where you make a difference 

Your ministry work gives you a chance to be the hands and feet of Jesus to children in need of connection and security. Alongside your role helping families, you likely work in one of the thrift stores where you will help generate additional funding for the ministry work. 

Learn life skills by living with other young people 

Your relationship with God directly impacts your relationship with other people. 

Living in a house with other volunteers will give you prime opportunities to learn how to live in a tight-knit community in practical ways. Through working with, and spending evenings and weekends with other young people you will learn how to build healthy relationships that will last far beyond your time of service. 

Responsibilities: 

• Assist in all divisions currently operating under “Children Ministries” which include the Child Placement Agency, Daycare, and ARK Ministries. 
• Be flexible and ready to help out in any one of these divisions. 
• Maintain a regular schedule, allowing for adjustments as needed. 

Key Result Areas: 

1. Child Placement Agency:

• Assist other nannies and house parents in providing care for privately placed children. 
• Help foster families care for their children at scheduled times throughout the week. 
• Assist families on days when one or both parents will need to go on a visit with the child or children in their care. 
• Assist with transportation of children to their visits. 
• Support foster families in practical ways, including cleaning and other domestic duties around the house.

2. Daycare:

• Provide additional or substitute care as needed.

3. ARK Ministries:

• Be open to involvement in this developing ministry. 

Training: 

• Complete a background check at the start of your training. 
• Complete first aid and CPR training. 

Thrift Store: 

• Work in the thrift stores from time to time if there is not enough work to keep you busy at the Children Ministries Support Staff position. 
• While it is the objective to have you primarily work within the children’s ministries, it is impossible to predict how much of your time will be spent helping in the thrift store with fellow youth volunteers, but it will never take up more than 50% of your time. 

Schedule: 

• You will have Sunday and one additional day off in a week. 
• You will attend a bible class every Tuesday afternoon. 
• Some of your evenings will be reserved for participation in Ascend meetings and activities with the other youth in the Ascend program.
